On Friday, 20 November 2020, Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) commemorates Universal Children’s Day through a sanitary towel and boys’ hygiene packs distribution drive to various schools across Gauteng.
Now in its sixth year, this program has benefited more than 6 000 children in the Province – girls and boys alike. Children are identified through school visits, who come from socially depressed communities.
Starting at 08:00, Honourable Speaker Ntombi Mekgwe will lead delegations of the GPL in distributing the hygiene packs to the following schools:
- Honourable Speaker Ntombi Mekgwe will visit these schools in Ekurhuleni: Abram Hlophe primary school; Greenfield Highschool; Monde Primary school; and Ukhanyiso primary school.
- Deputy Speaker, Hon. Nomvuyo Mhlakaza-Manamela will visit these schools in City of Johannesburg: Fumana High school; Kehlekile primary school; Barnato park High school; and Athlone Girls high school.
- Chairperson of Committees, Hon. Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane will visit Eqinisweni Secondary school and Ivory Park primary school in Ivory Park.
- Chairperson of the Multiparty Women’s Caucus, Hon. Thokozile Magagula will visit Bongane Primary school and Endicott Primary school in Sedibeng.
Through this drive, GPL hopes to minimise the despair that has resulted from loss of income and livelihoods in many Gauteng households due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
