Chair of Chairs, Hon. Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, spent this morning (Monday) with jubilant learners at Tharabollo Secondary School, in Sedibeng, which marked the last of her visits to needy Gauteng schools – as routinely done by Presiding Officers at the beginning of every year.
She had come bearing gifts which included personal care packs, back packs, and uniforms for the neediest learners identified through a selection process that was managed by the PPP Unit and the school. And the gesture was much appreciated by educators and learners alike, with the principal attributing the area’s abject poverty to the uncontrollable increase of new informal settlements.
The CoC gave a motivational talk to learners on the importance of them making their studies top priority, finishing school, and developing an attitude of life-long learning. She also urged them to get the Covid-19 jab, protect themselves from HIV and teenage pregnancy, and be on a constant lookout for gender-based violence, including reporting all known incidents and perpetrators. She emphasized the importance of them succeeding in their studies and being successful job creators, who will lead exemplary lives marked by responsible citizenship.
She told the learners about the GPL and all its work as a caring legislature, and the critical role that the people of Gauteng (including school learners) must play as active citizens. She also spoke about other GPL campaigns, including Men’s Forum activities and their intent to challenge and mentor young men to responsible manhood.
The annual school visits by Presiding Officers serve as a way of monitoring the work of the Gauteng Department of Education which is responsible for ensuring an effective schooling system in the province.
On Wednesday, 16 March, Chair of Chairs will visit Wedela Technical School on the West Rand, as well as Lethabong Secondary and Onverwacht Primary School in Tshwane on Thursday, 17 March.
