Members of the Provincial Legislature hold a position of power and influence in decision making. This has an inherent possibility of their personal and/or business interests conflicting with their role as elected public representatives. It is against this background that Members of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature are required to disclose their registrable interests in compliance with the Conflict-of-Interest Code and Disclosure Framework for Members. To ensure transparency, a register of Members’ interests
is maintained, and declarations are submitted to the Integrity Commissioner within 30 days after the opening of the Legislature or upon appointment of the Member. MPL’s have an obligation to perform their duties with honesty, integrity, and regard for the common good.
