The Chairperson of the Petitions Standing Committee, Hon. Vuyiswa Jentile, invites members of the public and all interested parties to attend the public hearings on the Gauteng Petitions Amendment Bill, 2024.
This Bill, proposed by the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, aims to amend the Gauteng Petitions Act of 2002 by introducing key updates. These include new definitions, setting norms and standards for municipalities to align their by-laws and policies on the processing and management of petitions, and ensuring that the Standing Committee on Petitions considers each petition effectively. The Bill also seeks to enhance Executive accountability and responsiveness to petitions submitted by the public.
