HEALTH COMMITTEE CONDEMNS MURDER OF SENIOR HEALTH OFFICIAL
The Portfolio Committee of Health in the Gauteng Legislature condemns the gruesome murder of Ms Babita Deokaran, the senior official in the department of Health in Gauteng.
The Portfolio Committee views the killing of Ms Deokaran, who was the Acting Chief Financial Officer, as a setback in the fight against corruption within the provincial government. As the Acting CFO, she displayed a strong commitment in the fight against corruption and prevented cases of irregular expenditures being incurred by the Department.
The Committee calls for law enforcement agencies to spare no effort in hunting down the perpetrator or perpetrators of this gruesome murder and swiftly bring them to justice. The Portfolio Committee also urges the public to assist the police with providing any information that will lead to the successful arrest and prosecution of perpetrators.
The Portfolio Committee wishes to extend heartfelt condolences to Ms Deokaran’s family, friends and colleagues.
May her soul rest in peace.
