In response to the ongoing Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak, the Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development, led by Chairperson Hon. Jaco Mulder, will convene a two-day joint workshop with Hon. Bones Modise, Chairperson of the Select Committee on Agriculture, Land Reform and Mineral Resources in the National Council of Provinces, to strengthen a cooperative governance.

The engagement will bring together the Select Committee and Chairpersons of Agriculture Portfolio Committees from all Provincial Legislatures to deliberate on containment measures and enhance collaboration across spheres of government. Discussions will focus on the current national status of FMD, vaccination programmes and livestock movement controls, the economic impact on farmers, and improved coordination and accountability.
