The Gauteng Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Environment, Agriculture & Rural Development (EARD) invites all interested individuals and organisations to comment on the Climate Change Bill of 2022.
The Bill aims to establish an effective national climate change response, and a fair transition to a low-carbon and climate-resilient economy and society.
FOCUSED ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT FOR SOUTH AFRICA, THE BILL ALSO AIMS TO:
1. Ensure an integrated response by the economy and society to climate change and its impacts in relation to principles of cooperative governance.
2. Provide for the effective management of inevitable climate change impacts by enhancing adaptive capacity, strengthening resilience, and reducing vulnerability to climate change.
3. Building social, economic, and environmental resilience and an adequate national adaptation response to climate change.
4. Contribute to global efforts to stabilize greenhouse gas concentration in the atmosphere to avoid dangerous human interference with the climate.
