Chairperson of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature Standing Committee on Public Accounts,
Honourable Sochayile Khanyile; is inviting organisations and individuals who have an
interest on ethical governance and public accountabilities on financial management by both
the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) and Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) to register
as its stakeholders.
SCOPA’s role is to exercise oversight over the GPL and GPG, on behalf of the Legislature; to ensure
accountable utilization of resources and prudent financial management. It is expected to make
recommendations in this regard to the Legislature. The role of SCOPA is complemented by the
Auditor-General of South Africa, whose mandate is to conduct audits of National and Provincial state
departments and other public sector bodies, and to submit reports to the Legislature.
SCOPA is expected to consider the views of the public and relevant stakeholders in its performance
of its responsibilities which includes law-making and oversight. In this regard SCOPA of GPL is in
the process of developing a stakeholder database which must amongst others, include Civil Society
Organisations, NGO’s, Audit firms, Institutions of Higher Learning, Public Accountability Bodies, Trade
unions, Business community, etc.
