The Gauteng Provincial Legislature is taking parliament to the people by hosting the annual Interfaith Sector Parliament on Thursday, 16 July 2020. Through Sector parliaments, GPL is able to measure the effectiveness of existing legislation and policies aimed at the enhancement and protection of rights of the different communities in Gauteng.
In keeping up with the COVID-19 regulations, the 2020 sector parliaments will be virtual with a limited regional delegation of participants. As this is the first time the Legislature hosts a Sector Parliament virtually, there will be a few changes to how it will be carried out, chief of which is that it will be completely distributed, with no central venue where participants will assemble
How will the sector parliament work?
Orders (topics) are debated where at the end of the debate, a representative from the Gauteng Provincial Legislature will receive resolutions that will be forwarded to the relevant Gauteng Executive authorities for processing. The following are this year’s orders (topics):
- Values, ethical conduct, and service delivery
- Religious curriculum of values in schools
- The role of the interfaith sector in curbing violence against women and children
- The role of the interfaith community in curbing the spread of the coronavirus.
Watch the proceedings live on the Gauteng Provincial Legislature YouTube channel on Thursday, 16 July 2020, 10:00 – 14:00. Just in case you miss it, the Sector Parliament will continue to be available at the same location.
All sector parliaments are open to the public and we encourage you to participate.
