GPL COMMITTEES ENGAGE STAKEHOLDERS ON SCHOOL SAFETY
On Thursday, 31 August 2023, the Legislature’s Community Safety and Education portfolio committees will jointly host various stakeholders in a session to discuss interventions that aim to restore learner safety at schools.
The session forms part of the Focus Intervention Study (FIS) that each of the two committees is currently conducting to assess the effectiveness current interventions to fight crime at Gauteng schools.
This comprehensive inquest has been necessitated by the high levels of crime and violence experienced by learners in several schools across the province. The two committees envisage that, out of the engagement session and the study, concrete plans and recommendations will be developed to ensure the safety of learners and educators in the schooling environment.
The engagement session will bring together relevant government departments, law enforcement agencies, academics, researchers, and representatives of the education sector.
The engagement session will take place as follows:
