The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety will on Thursday, 23 June 2022 conduct an oversight visit at the Ga-Rankuwa Police Stations following reports that the Station has been without electricity for over 8 months.

The purpose of this oversight visit is to ascertain the main reasons why a critical component of the Ga-Rankuwa community which is responsible for the prevention and detection of crime as well as the maintenance of public order has had its power cut off for over 8 months.

The Committee is extremely concerned that Police services are considered as an essential service in South Africa and to have a Police Station without electricity for over 8 months is to undermine the critical role Police Officers play in keeping communities safe.

The Committee will work tirelessly with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that power is restored at the Ga-Rankuwa Police Stations and make certain that those responsible are held accountable.

Members of the media are welcome to join the Committee during its oversight visit.

Details of the oversight visit are as follows:

Date:  Thursday, 23 June 2022
