The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety has learned with great shock the untimely passing of the Deputy Provincial Police Commissioner Major-General Theko Pharasi.
Major-General Pharasi lost his life in the early hours of Monday morning. At the time of his death, General Pharasi served as the Deputy Provincial Commissioner responsible for Visible Policing in Gauteng, a strategic unit established to fight crime in a proactive, coordinated and focused manner.
As a Senior Manager within the Police Service, Major-General Pharasi was part of a team that would appear before the Legislature on a quarterly basis to brief and account to the Committee on the work done by Police through visible and impact driven operations to stabilize the increasing rate of crime in the Province.
As a Committee we will remember Major-General Pharasi as a committed and dedicated law enforcement officer who at all times demonstrated a sense of passion and professionalism in his work.
His sudden departure comes at time when the country is battling with the ever increasing rate of crime that requires the experience and expertise of law enforcement officers like Major-General Pharasi.
The Committee wishes to extended its heartfelt condolences to the entire law enforcement fraternity in the Province, his family, friends and the entire Gauteng Community which he served with distinction.
