Gauteng Provincial Legislature Portfolio Committee on CoGTA and Human Settlements, welcomes the decision to place City of Tshwane Metropolitan under administration.
Gauteng Provincial Legislature Portfolio Committee on CoGTA and Human Settlements, led by Chairperson Dr. Nomathemba Mokgethi welcomes the decision by the Gauteng Government to evoke Section 139(1)(c) of the Constitution – placing Tshwane under administration until a new council is elected.
The Committee has noted with concern the City Council’s inability to meet since November last year to adopt budget adjustments, and failure to address the administrative crisis that left the metro without an Executive Mayor, Mayoral Committee and a City Manager. The instability in the City of Tshwane Council has affected Governance and service delivery.
The Portfolio Committee will closely monitor the development in the City of Tshwane Council to ensure that service delivery is promptly restored for the residence of Tshwane.
ISSUED BY THE GPL’S COMMUNICATIONS UNIT ON BEHALF OF CHAIRPERSON OF GAUTENG PROVINCIAL LEGISLATURE COGTA & HUMAN SETTLEMENTS PORTFOLIO COMMITTEE, HONOURABLE DR NOMATHEMBA MOKGETHI.
