The GPL, led by the Speaker, Hon. Lentheng Ntombi Mekgwe, will host a Civic Education programme aimed at educating stakeholders about the GPL and its mandate and programmes on Monday, May 16, in Tshwane, Garankuwa. The planned workshop will be attended by around 150 Garankuwa Ward 32 community members and stakeholders.
The programme aims to encourage citizens to guard South Africa’s hard-earned freedom by participating actively in democratic processes and utilising available opportunities to contribute to the legislative and be aware of the outcomes and details of the governance oversight processes of the GPL.
Through the programme, stakeholders will be enlightened on how democracy can best be upheld and defended through the meaningful participation of citizens in governance and legislative processes. The petitions system will also be highlighted as a mechanism to ensure the accountability and responsiveness of local and provincial government in matters related to service delivery.
Stakeholders forming part of the programme of the day will include Youth organisations representatives, Pastors, Traditional Healers representatives, area Community Policing Forums and the Local Councillor.
