The meeting is being held to gain more insight on the progress made in absorbing Community Healthcare Workers (CHWs) and the strides taken by the Gauteng Department of Health (GDOH) in order to ensure the absorption of CHWs to the GDOH’s payroll. Further, to understand the plans that the department has put in place to ensure the development of CHWs.
The Committee has had engagements with CHWs in the past and there were lots of concerning issues that were previously reported as challenges faced by the CHWs in their operating environment. Such problems included uniforms, protective gear since it was a COVID era, safety and security when working within the communities, and issues of transport and having to walk long distances.
It is against this background that the Committee is having a feedback session to get a report and progress on the above mentioned issued.
