On the 22nd March 2022. GPL signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the National School of Government (NSG) for training and other capacity building interventions for Members of the Provincial Legislature (MPL)s and Staff.
Emerging skills in cybersecurity, future planning, and management as well as big data handling are some of the areas that GPL will gain from the partnership with NSG and its network of university programmers.
More importantly, the partnership will benefit the people of Gauteng as they are the ones who bear the brunt of government inefficiencies. And as the first port of call in holding government and elected public representatives accountable, GPL will reap positive spinoffs from the partnership through strengthened capacity.
Secretary to the Legislature, Mr Peter Skosana, said the partnership “will set GPL up for success”, and enable it to meet stakeholder expectations of caring and responsive Legislature. “The NSG is a natural fit as a training and education provider, and we can collaboratively tailor-make the skills and capacity sets unique to GPL as an oversight institution that is people-centered and high-performance poised,” he added.
In the past, GPL had the Legislative Capacity Building Programme, which articulated to Degree, Postgraduate and Masters’ level qualifications for new MPLs. With the new partnership, the programmes will be reviewed.
The partnership is fully supported by the Speaker of the Legislature, Hon. Ntombi Mekgwe and the Minister of Public Service & Administration, Ms. Ayanda Dlodlo as it adds to building an ethical, capable developmental state in all spheres of government.
