On May 25, 59 years ago, the Organization of African Unity (OAU) was born. From the beginning it was dedicated to the idea that only through unity could Africa safeguard its independence and unlock its potential.
While we mark this year’s Africa Day in the shadow of the coronavirus pandemic -as has been the case for the past two years – we do so with heart’s full of hope for some light at the end of this dark and seemingly never-ending tunnel.
In this regard, the Legislature has partnered with the Gauteng Women Roundtable and the two Parliamentary Constituency Offices in Soweto in celebrating the Africa Day on the 26 May 2022, Thursday in Meadowlands, Soweto. The day will be celebrated through music and prayers for Peace and Unity.
