The main purpose of the Senior Citizen’s Parliament is to empower the elderly to participate in the economy and governance of the province. For the previous year the sector parliament was conducted with an aim to create an understanding of how the senior citizens can enhance social cohesion and have greater access to economic opportunities.
The emphasis was on the elderly socio-economic empowerment, development and human rights including safety initiatives.

The sector Parliament for Senior Citizens was held on the 18th of October 2024, at Cullinan Library in the Tshwane Region. It was attended by 500 Stakeholders representing 5 regions in the Gauteng Province.

In response to issues that were raised by the Stakeholders who were in attendance, the Gauteng Provincial Legislature will host the Senior Citizens Feedback Session to provide a progress report on the resolutions of the last senior citizens sector parliament that was held.

This will take place on Friday, 31st October 2025 in the City of Johannesburg, Ferndale Recreation Centre.
