As Women’s Month draws nearer, the process of nominating deserving volunteers for the Gauteng Legislature’s 2025 Vita Basadi Awards is now open. Gauteng residents from every part of the province can nominate remarkable Women volunteers who have made contributions to the welfare of their communities in different ways.

The Vita Basadi Awards, meaning ‘Women of virtue’ in Swahili and SeSotho, aim to recognize and honour the selfless efforts of these exceptional Women.

The awards are part of the GPL’s diverse program for Women’s Month in August, annually.

The initiative highlights the remarkable power and influence held by Women. It intends to shine the spotlight on and celebrate the often-overlooked contributions of Women in many communities to empower and help others.

Deserving Women of all ages, races, cultures, and creeds residing in Gauteng can be nominated under different categories.

When nominating a candidate, participants are required to submit the nominee’s name along with a brief motivation explaining the kind of service they offer to their community, demonstrating why they deserve to be recognized. Nominators are also welcomed to upload any additional documentations to enhance their motivations on platforms such as Google Drive/iCloud/OneDrive/DropBox/etc and paste a link into the form.

The categories for the Vita Basadi Awards include; Outstanding Youth Philanthropist Award, Young Dignitary Award (Junior /Primary School), Young Dignitary Award (Secondary/ High School) (New), Innovative Educators Award, Unsung Legend Award, Community Builder of the Year, The Guardian Award, Community Heroine Award, Woman of Honour Award and Outstanding Creative Award
